Вrussels’ Course Is Destroying Europe’s Prosperity – ESN Demands an Economic U-Turn! 
The European Commission has significantly downgraded its growth forecast for the eurozone – to 0.9% for 2025 and 1.4% for 2026. One of the main reasons is the economic weakness in Germany. ESN MEP Рада Лайкова commented:
„The EU has already been in economic stagnation for about a decade. Even those 1% growths reported are mostly just the result of statistical tricks. The European Commission is quick to point fingers at the USA or Russia, but the problems in Europe are homemade. The current drastic cut in the EU’s growth forecast is yet another sign of the failure of Brussels’ current policies. Instead of strengthening the competitiveness of European companies, the Commission has pursued an ideologically driven agenda of economic self-sabotage in recent years – from excessive bureaucracy to costly climate regulations that particularly hurt our industry. Does the EU learn? No. The Draghi report only just admitted what the so-called “EU critics” have been saying for a decade: the EU, with its doctrine of ever more planned economy, monetary distortion and regulation, is undermining Europe’s competitiveness. However, the Draghi report just admits the problem after it had become impossible to hide the economic stagnation anymore, but then demands that allegedly only “more EU” is the solution to something which was caused by already “too much EU”. A common trick of the EU: create a problem yourself and then spin its causality for even more control and more money for the EU.
What is especially worrying is the economic stagnation in Germany, the backbone of Europe’s economy. High energy prices – caused by the self-imposed disconnection from reliable energy sources – and a massive investment backlog are problems of the EU’s own making. An industrial economy cannot exist without cheap and reliable energy. Germany no longer has either. The Commission bears responsibility because it constantly interferes too much in national economic policies or energy imports instead of enabling independent solutions.
In light of the economic situation, the ESN Group calls for an immediate moratorium on all new EU regulations that further burden businesses, as well as a fundamental reorientation of energy policy toward affordable and secure supply for citizens and industry. In addition, we need to access some of our own sources for certain resources, especially since the EU seems to intentionally head into economic and geopolitical isolation when you read some of its newest reports. The “intentionally” is, of course, not admitted, but can be observed. Furthermore, a return to sound fiscal policy and responsible use of EU funds is urgently needed. The EU, though, is heading for the exact opposite.”
